Claire's Cup 2017 Recipient Noah Readyhough - Play for a Cause!

St. Mary’s Soccer hosts Claire’s Cup, an adult 4v4 small-sided soccer tournament in the fall in support of a St. Mary’s County family with a child experiencing a life-threatening illness.  Claire’s Cup began in 2011 in celebration of a St. Mary’s Soccer player, Claire Broadhead, who was under treatment for acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL). Six years later, Claire remains a strong presence on the field for her St. Mary’s Soccer travel team and her high school soccer squad.

Noah Readyhough, who was diagnosed this year with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) has been selected as the 2017 Claire’s Cup Recipient.  Childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (also called ALL or acute lymphocytic leukemia) is a cancer of the blood and bone marrow.

Noah is a wonderful, caring, smart, and extremely compassionate 14-year-old.  He enjoys playing sports, paintball, video games, music, and spending time with his friends and family. He is a straight A student that is involved in school and community activities. Noah played soccer with St. Mary’s Soccer beginning with Kiddie Kick and also was a referee this past spring for SMS games.

On June 16th 2017, Noah was diagnosed with ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia) and the Readyhoughs’ world instantly changed.  Noah is undergoing a regimen of chemotherapy and attends school when his health permits.  He spent a month at Children's National Medical Center in Washington D.C. in June/July and continues his treatments every Friday and usually one other day each week due to adverse effects of the chemotherapy. Through March of next year, Noah will also be admitted several times, for 3-10 days at a time.  Should all go as planned, after March of next year, Noah will continue to receive chemotherapy treatments and visit Children's once per month and be admitted for a week multiple times for the next 3 1/2 years.

St. Mary’s Soccer Claire’s Cup proceeds, minus referee costs, are all donated to the Claire’s Cup recipient. There are multiple expenses not covered by insurance and the donations from this event will hopefully provide a gesture of financial relief for the Readyhough family.  Team fees are $150 per team with a 3 game guarantee. Deadline for team applications is November 1st.

Claire’s Cup requires all participants be 18 years, or older.  The format is coed, and one female must be on the field at all times, or the team must play with 3 players. This is a fun night for those participating. There is a division for the “premier” adults, the young guns still reliving their youth. There are also divisions for the weekend warriors and those who have never played soccer before, but are eager to help out with a great cause.  We hope to see you all out there on the field or in support on Friday, November 10th from 6-10-m at Chancellors Run Park.
